QUESTION :

Can I receive food/drinks from my support crew at each aid station?

ANSWER :

Outside support can only be provided at aid stations and water stations where supporters are allowed. Many people will using these aid stations therefore supporters may only bring in up to one bag with a capacity of 30 liters or less.

QUESTION :

I may not have the chance to hand my supporter’s pass to my support crew before the race starts. How can I get help?

ANSWER :

It’s up to you to figure out a way to hand your supporter’s pass to your supporter. Without a supporter’s pass, they will not be able to enter the support area within the aid station and they will not be able to support you. One idea is to have the racer carry the supporter’s pass with them during the race and hand it to his/her supporter at the aid station.

QUESTION :

Can support crews bring their own table and chairs into the aid stations?

ANSWER :

Support crews may not bring in their own tables or chairs into the aid stations as space will be limited. Please note that supporters are only allowed at aid stations where support is allowed and that they may only bring in a bag of up to a maximum of 30L (capacity). Be sure to read through the “Supporter Rules” on the race website for further details.

QUESTION :

Is there a free shuttle bus between Ohike Kouen (Kawaguchiko) and the Fuji Hokuroku Parking Lot for racer’s support crew members?

ANSWER :

Yes, the shuttle bus is available to both racers and support crew. Shuttle bus departure times can be found on the race website under the “Directions” menu.

Please note that the departure times may vary depending on the number of passengers and traffic. Shuttle bus schedule updates will be available at Ohike Kouen at the information booth.

QUESTION :

How can I see list of registered racers?

ANSWER :

The racer list will be posted up on the race website by September once all the race bib numbers have been assigned. If necessary, updates to this list will also be made afer this date.

QUESTION :

Can I use stoves/burners at the aid stations and parking lots? Are there areas where the use of fire is prohibited?

ANSWER :

Stoves/burners may not be used at the following aid stations and parking lots:
A5 Kodomo-no-kuni,
w4 Subashiri,
A7 Yamanakako,
A9 Fujiyoshida
There will be hot water available at the aid stations for the runners.

QUESTION :

Is there a public parking lot near Ohike Kouen other than the Fuji Hokuroku parking lot?

ANSWER :

Yes there are other pay parking lots within walking distance as well as within a short bus ride. Please be aware though that these parking lots are also open to the general public and may be full.

Are there things that supporters need to be careful of?

ANSWER :

Please carefully read Rule #14 “Aid Stations & Supporter Rules” within the Rules & Regulations page.

Do I need a parking pass to park at the aid stations?

ANSWER :

No you don’t need a parking pass to park at the aid stations. However, please be aware that there are specific aid stations where cars are not allowed.

Where can I buy portable/disposable toilets?

ANSWER :

You can buy them at the UTMF Expo booths before the race.

Are there public hot springs (“onsens”) near the finish line at Yagisaki Kouen where I can bathe/shower?

ANSWER :

QUESTION :

Is there a place to rest/nap at the finish line?

ANSWER :

No, there is a place where you can sit down and rest but space is limited so please do not use this space for sleeping and/or resting for a long time.

QUESTION :

If I use my extra batteries for my headlamp and then leave the used batteries in my drop bag or give them to my supporter for disposal, I’ll no longer have “extra batteries” with me as per the mandatory equipment list. If our gear is checked during the race and I don’t have an extra set of batteries with me, will I be disqualified?

ANSWER :

Yes, you must carry all the mandatory equipment with you throughout the race. We suggest you leave an extra set of new batteries with your supporter or leave an extra set in your drop bag. You can also carry extra batteries with you to replace your used batteries.

QUESTION :

If I give a hiker or another runner my taping tape or emergency blanket, will I be able to get a new one at the aid station?

ANSWER :

Yes. If you use your mandatory equipment for an emergency, you will be given a new one at the aid station.

QUESTION :

Portable/disposable toilets are part of the mandatory equipment but if I use mine during the race, will I be able to exchange it for a new one at the next aid station?

ANSWER :

Yes, you will be able to exchange the disposable toilet at the aid stations. (There will be a supply of disposable toilets there.) Please throw out all used disposable toilets in the specified garbage boxes located at the aid station.

QUESTION :

Will I be able to recharge my mobile phone at aid stations?

ANSWER :

Yes, there will be mobile phone chargers (for different types of mobile phones) at the aid stations.

QUESTION :

I would like to turn off my mobile phone during the race, however I’ve been told that we may receive emergency messages from race headquarters. Are there any areas where it is mandatory to keep my mobile phone on to receive SMS messages?

ANSWER :

You must keep your mobile phone on at all times in order to receive messages regarding bad weather, earthquakes and other emergencies. There are no specific areas where you must be able to receive SMS messages.

QUESTION :

A mobile phone is included on the mandatory equipment list but my batteries won’t last for 2 days. Is it okay if my batteries don’t last?

ANSWER :

You may receive an emergency phone call from the race headquarters so please carry a battery recharger and keep the phone on during the race.

QUESTION :

Should I bring a FORK?

ANSWER :

If you’re not used to eating with chopsticks, then you might want to bring your own fork or spoon to be able to eat the Japanese noodle soups at the aid stations.

QUESTION :

What do you mean by adhesive elastic tape/band?

ANSWER :

This is strong tape that can not only be used for emergencies such as fractures and injuries but can also be used for many things including repairing broken equipment (such as your backpack straps). The minimum length is 80cm x 3cm.

QUESTION :

Can I bring a survival blanket in the shape of a sleeping bag? This type of bag is not 130cm x 200cm but if you cut it and spread it open, it is larger than 130cm x 200cm.

ANSWER :

Yes. You can bring a sleeping bag style survival blanket as long as it meets the size requirements when completely spread out.

QUESTION :

Can I just carry a pair of long pants or long tights/leggings that cover the ankles instead of wearing them?

ANSWER :

Yes – this is okay. The long pants/tights are to keep you warm so if the weather is good and the temperature is high, you can put these items in your backpack. If you feel cold, please take them out of your backpack and wear them.

QUESTION :

Does a cap and headband or the hood of my jacket meet the requirements for “warm hat that covers the ears”?

ANSWER :

Neither a cap and headband nor a jacket hood meet the requirements of “warm hat”. You must bring a warm hat that covers both ears (for example a wool or polyester knit cap)

QUESTION :

Do I have to wear/put on the mandatory equipment at all times?

ANSWER :

No. You do not have to wear the mandatory equipment at all times. You can put it in your backpack if you’re not using it. You can run in your bathing suit if you’d like – just make sure you have all the items in the backpack you’re carrying with you during the race or else you will be disqualified. There will be gear checks for both the UTMF and STY during the race.

QUESTION :

What is the magnetic declination of the detailed race course map?

ANSWER :

The magnetic declination is 6 degrees west. Racers can write in the
magnetic north line onto their own maps.

QUESTION :

Will there be enough water at the aid stations to refill my hydration bladder?

ANSWER :

Yes. There will be plenty of water available at the aid stations.

QUESTION :

Yes, you can use the vending machines and convenience stores located along the course.
However, you may not use these if they are located far away from the race course.

QUESTION :

Can I use a plastic Ziplock Bag as my portable toilet?

ANSWER :

Yes, you can use a Ziplock Bag as long as it doesn’t leak/spill when you throw it out at an aid station (or worse, in your backpack!).

QUESTION :

Can I use an empty bottle or cut a PET bottle in half and use that as my portable cup?

ANSWER :

Yes, as long as it is larger than 150cc (150mL) and not made of glass (no glass bottles are allowed).

QUESTION :

Will the race be transporting STY racer’s belongings/bags to the finish line in Kawaguchiko?

ANSWER :

Yes. STY racers can drop off their bags at the start in Fujisan Kodomo no
Kuni.
The bags will be transported to the finish line in Kawaguchiko.
