Last year, qualifying races for the UTMF/STY were based on “distance”. However, starting from 2014, a new point system has been implemented. This point system assigns points to qualifying races based on both distance and cumulative altitude gain. This point system is similar to the qualifying point system used by UTMF’s sister race, the Ultra-Trail Mt. Blanc (UTMB).
In order to qualify for the UTMF/STY, racers must successfully finish a qualifying race(s) and obtain the required number of points. “Successfully finish” means that you must have officially finished the race within the time limits.

UTMF (Ultra-Trail Mt. FUJI)
You must have obtained a minimum of 4 points in a maximum of 2 races between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2013.
(Note: 4 points in 3 or more races does not qualify)

STY (Shizuoka to Yamanashi)
You must have obtained a minimum of 2 points in a maximum of 2 races between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2013.

•Points for the UTMB/UTMF are based on assessment of race effort and calculated using the following formula: (X) = Distance (in km) + Cumulative Altitude Gain (in meters) / 100

If (X) =# of qualifying points
65 – 89 1 point
90 – 129 2 points
130 – 179 3 points
>180 4 points

•Races in Japan: A list of races in Japan that may qualify for the UTMF is available on the race website. (Note: this is a preliminary list and is subject to change)
エントリー資格レース(日本):List of Qualifying Races in Japan

•Japanese races that are not shown as qualifying races on the UTMB website are currently being reviewed by the UTMB and UTMF race organizations. If the Japanese race is approved, it will be added to the UTMB qualifying race list. Also, please note that depending on the results of the review, races that qualified for the UTMB in the past may no longer qualify.

•Races outside of Japan: A list of qualifying races outside of Japan is available on the UTMB official website.

•Races taking place after August 1, 2013: The UTMB and UTMF race organizations will review the race once it’s finished and assign it qualifying points.

•If a race is cancelled or the race course distance/cumulative altitude gain is changed due to bad weather, the number of qualifying points assigned will be revised.
